Lead Engineer – Hybrid (Birmingham City Centre)

Location: Hybrid – Birmingham City Centre (office Mondays & Tuesdays)

Start Date: ASAP (understanding of notice periods)

A leading software consultancy is looking for a Lead Engineer to join their cross-functional team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an engineering-led environment, enjoys modern technologies, and wants to influence both technical direction and product outcomes.

The Role

As a Lead Engineer, you will:

• Provide technical leadership across projects, guiding a squad of 5–6 engineers
• Drive technical excellence and ensure delivery of reliable, scalable solutions
• Shape technical strategy and long-term architectural decisions
• Optimise development workflows and delivery processes
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders and clients
• Foster collaboration, provide clear direction, and empower team members
• Mentor engineers and support their technical growth
• Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on technical strategy

Skills & Experience

We're looking for someone with experience in:

• TypeScript/JavaScript
• React and Next.js
• Node.js (Fastify, Express or similar)
• API testing tools (Postman, Bruno)
• Databases such as Oracle or MongoDB
• Leading cross-functional teams and working directly with clients

Bonus skills:

• Git
• CI/CD pipelines (Azure Pipelines or similar)
• Azure Boards or similar project tools
• Experience with AI/LLM integrations
