Marketing Manager/Head of Marketing
Do you want to be the person who builds marketing from the ground up, not someone who just maintains what's already there?
Could you unlock the full power of HubSpot and turn it into a genuine lead-generation engine?
Would you be happy knowing your success is measured on one thing above all: more leads?
If you're nodding along, read on.
The business
My client is a well-established, independent B2B business that has been running for over 25 years. They supply specialist instrumentation from leading international manufacturers into sectors including science and technology, nuclear, food, farming, pharma, energy and universities. Over the last few years they've grown from a team of 4 to around 14. They did it by investing in good people and putting profits back into the business, and it certainly shows in the culture.
Growth to date has come from a strong sales team and loyal customers. The next stage needs marketing alongside sales, so this is their first dedicated marketing hire and a genuinely pivotal one.
The role
You'll report directly to the two directors and own marketing end to end. There's no formal strategy in place yet, so you'll help shape it from day one and then deliver it. You'll need to hit the ground running.
You'll be responsible for:
- HubSpot: currently only the CRM side is used. You'll unlock the marketing suite and use it to its full potential, covering segmentation, lead nurturing, automation, reactivation campaigns, lead scoring and full-funnel reporting.
- Lead generation and new business: increasing enquiries, reactivating dormant accounts, growing new accounts and building OEM business.
- Digital: SEO, Google Ads and website ownership, working with an external web and digital specialist to improve conversion.
- Campaigns and content: email, product launches, sector campaigns, case studies and application notes.
- Budget: full ownership of the marketing budget and ROI.
- Brand and events: positioning the business as the technical expert of choice, plus trade shows and co-marketing with suppliers.
Here's what makes it interesting: this is really several mini businesses under one umbrella. In some sectors buyers care most about what an instrument can do. In others, price is the deciding factor. Different sectors and products each need their own approach, so no two campaigns will look the same.
About you
- Solid B2B marketing experience is essential.
- Strong, hands-on HubSpot skills, ideally including the marketing hub and automation.
- Working knowledge of SEO and Google Ads is desirable, and experience managing agencies or contractors.
- Commercially minded. You measure success in leads and revenue, not activity.
- A technical mindset or industrial background would be a bonus, but it isn't essential. A real willingness to learn quickly matters just as much.
You'll be inquisitive and analytical, you won't be fazed by technical jargon, and you'll be comfortable working autonomously as the only marketer in the business but as part of a friendly and successful team. You'll make decisions and own them, and you'll have the confidence to push back on the directors when you're the expert in the room.
