Phlebotomist
Job summary
We are looking for an experienced phlebotomist on a fixed term basis for 12 hours a week to provide venepuncture for our patients.
Main duties of the job
Working strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples from patients

About us
Selsey Medical Practice is part of the Chichester Alliance of Medical Practices (ChAMP) Primary Care Network which consists of 8 GP surgeries covering Chichester, Selsey, Wittering, Tangmere and Southbourne and provides care to over 92,000 patients.
We have 12,500 patients registered at our practice, we have 11 GP's who are supported by a team of nurses and other healthcare professionals and supporting roles.

Job responsibilities
Obtaining patient consent for the collection of a blood sample
Performing venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols
Maintaining accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensuring specimens are ready for onward transportation
Correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples
Effective use of the specimen log, resolving any discrepancies
Ensuring samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner
Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
- Able to perform venepuncture
- Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to colleagues
- Clinical IT system user skills and the ability to record accurate clinical notes
- Understanding of safeguarding adults and children
- Chaperone procedure
- Using clinical computerised systems e.g. Systmone
Personal Qualities
- Organised
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Team player
- Awareness of blood-borne viruses
Experience
- Working with general public
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
- Good understanding of infection prevention and control measures
- Experience in primary care
Qualifications
- GCSE's in English and Maths
- Qualification in venepuncture
