They are delivering a company-wide Digital Transformation (DX) Programme that will modernise their technology landscape and transform how they deliver services. As part of this journey, their IT and Portfolio Delivery teams are implementing a new enterprise technology platform, making this an exciting opportunity to join the business and help shape their future.

Role Overview
Reporting to the Lead Platform Engineer, the Senior Observability Engineer will own and develop their observability capability, leading the design, implementation and continuous improvement of their monitoring and alerting platform.
Working closely with infrastructure, platform and application teams, you will ensure their services are effectively monitored, issues are detected proactively, and operational insights support reliable service delivery across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and develop Grafana as the enterprise monitoring and alerting platform.
  • Design and maintain dashboards, alerting and monitoring architecture across their Azure estate.
  • Integrate Azure Monitor, Application Insights and Log Analytics with Grafana.
  • Develop meaningful dashboards and actionable alerts for technical and business stakeholders.
  • Identify telemetry gaps and improve system observability.
  • Support incident investigation and continuous service improvement.
  • Manage monitoring configuration using Infrastructure as Code (Bicep) and version control.
  • Develop KQL queries, dashboards and visualisations.
  • Define monitoring standards, SLIs and SLOs where appropriate.
  • Produce documentation and share knowledge across the engineering team.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in Observability, Platform Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Grafana administration, dashboards and alerting.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Monitor, Application Insights and Log Analytics.
  • Strong Kusto Query Language (KQL) skills.
  • Experience monitoring Azure Integration Services, including Function Apps, Logic Apps, Service Bus and API Management.
  • Experience integrating monitoring platforms with ITSM tools such as ServiceNow or Jira Service Management.
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (Bicep or similar).
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.

Desirable

  • OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Loki or Tempo.
  • Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Microsoft Azure certifications.
  • Experience delivering enterprise cloud transformation programmes.
