We are looking for a skilled and motivated Network & Communications Engineer to help deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing network and communications services across the Trust. Working as part of our Technical Services team, you will play a key role in supporting the infrastructure that enables colleagues to provide high-quality care every day.

Main duties of the job
Support the delivery and ongoing performance of the Trust's network, wireless, telephony, and communications infrastructure, ensuring services remain highly available, secure, and fit for purpose through proactive monitoring, maintenance, and continuous improvement.
Provide expert 3rd line technical support, troubleshooting and resolving complex infrastructure incidents while working closely with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders to maintain service continuity.
Design, implement, and support infrastructure projects, upgrades, and service improvements, ensuring solutions are resilient, scalable, well documented, and aligned to organisational requirements.
Apply specialist technical knowledge across networking, security, wireless, telephony, and mobile device management technologies while ensuring compliance with security, information governance, and operational best practice.
Contribute to incident, problem, and change management processes, supporting the delivery of safe, reliable, and effective digital services across the Trust.

Job responsibilities
Support the delivery of the Trust's Digital Strategy through the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of network and communications infrastructure that enables modern, efficient, and reliable services.
The role provides specialist technical expertise within the Network & Communications team, ensuring infrastructure services remain secure, resilient, scalable, and fit for purpose.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor, maintain, and optimise network, wireless, telephony, and communications infrastructure
Design, implement, and support infrastructure projects, upgrades, and service improvements
Configure and maintain network switches, firewalls, wireless infrastructure, and security appliances
Ensure infrastructure is documented, secure, resilient, and aligned to best practice standards
Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical incidents and problems
Support capacity planning and infrastructure lifecycle management
Manage and support mobile device management platforms and associated services
Work with suppliers and stakeholders to deliver projects, resolve incidents, and support service improvements
Contribute to business cases, technical designs, and infrastructure planning activities
Support change management and major incident processes, ensuring risks are appropriately managed
Provide technical mentoring, knowledge sharing, and support to colleagues across the Digital department
Maintain communications rooms and supporting infrastructure to a high professional standard
Deliver transformational digital capabilities that support frontline services and organisational objectives
Promote continual service improvement and adoption of emerging technologies where appropriate
Person Specification
Training and Qualifications
- Degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant IT related field or equivalent relevant experience
- ITIL v4 Qualification
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Fortinet NSE4
- Aruba Certified Network Technician (ACNT)
- VoIP Training and/or qualification
- Microsoft Intune Training and/or qualification
Technical skills
- Able to communicate with non-technical staff and explain IT issues in a manner they will be able to relate to, demonstrating patience, empathy and perseverance.
- Ability to meet deadlines e.g SLA's/KPI's, report deadlines and project timescales.
- Able to show initiative and make decisions, referring to senior staff where required.
- Able to prioritise and organise their own work, completing in an accurate and timely manner.
- Comprehensive understanding of network concepts, LAN/WAN/VLAN & wireless
- Knowledge of VoIP & SIP implementation and support
- Practical knowledge of configuring and maintaining: Routers & Switches, TCP/IP Networking, DNS/DHCP, Firewalls
- Experience managing Android & iOS devices using Microsoft Intune or similar MDMs
- Substantial & extensive "generic technology" problem solving skills
- Ability to cope with conflicting demands and constraints, prioritising and organising their own work, to complete it in an accurate and timely manner.

- Experience of specifying technical requirements to meet business needs
- Experience of undertaking system implementations, upgrades and migrations
- Experience in managing security systems such as Firewalls and VPNs.
- Aruba switch and wireless networking experience, including installation, configuration and management.
- Experience of working in Comms Rooms
- Experience working in an NHS organisation accessing clinical sites and NHS related networks such as HSCN.
