We have an opportunity for a Histopathology Subject Matter Analyst to play a key role in the implementation of the new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) across South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology. The LIMS is first of type in the UK and provides the chance for the post holder to be involved in the design and workflow within the Histopathology workstream.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term/secondment contract basis for an initial 7-month period until 31 May 2026 as the project is currently under replanning.

Subject Matter Analysts are already in place for each of the following disciplines:

  • Chemistry
  • Haematology
  • Immunology
  • Virology
  • Bacteriology

The experienced Subject Matter Analyst will be a champion in their own field and must carry credibility with colleagues. They will play a vital role in enabling successful service transition and therefore must have an aptitude for understanding digital systems and its enablers in healthcare.

Main duties of the job

Working collaboratively within a LIMS workstream with members of the Implementation Team, the postholder be responsible for ensuring their workstream activities are delivered within agreed timescales, appropriately escalating when problems arise to ensure the programme timeline is adhered to.

The postholder will collaborate with a team of change partners to work with the supplier, laboratory and operational transformation leads to design the clinical configuration. They will provide updates and produce standard operating procedures for the new processes developed for the Oracle Health LIMS module.

Together with the laboratory teams the postholder will ensure that all priorities are aligned to achieve the whole programme plan. They will support staff to develop and improve the new LIMS for all Laboratory services across SYB Pathology and will work with the clear objective that LIMS will improve patient safety, quality of care and patient experience.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 7 months (until the end of May 2026) due to the post being recruited as part of a limited term project within the Trust. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the requirement for the post to be maintained as a part of the projects implementation and the timescales associated with this.

Person Specification

Skills and Knowledge

Essential
  • Excellent planning, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to effectively impart information that can be understood and translated to the working environment
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills
  • Experience of managing challenging situations
  • Ability to prioritise and manage conflicting deadlines and manage own workload and maintain a consistent high-quality output

Education and Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to degree level, or relevant experience
  • Evidence of HCPC Registration in appropriate laboratory discipline.
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Desirable
  • Qualification in advanced IT use (e.g. Microsoft Office Specialist, ISEB Certificate in Data Management Essentials or equivalent experience
  • Lean, Agile, Sigma 6 training or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Formal qualification in Project management (PRINCE 2 practitioner) or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential
  • Experience of Laboratory Information Management Systems within the NHS
  • Worked within a Histopathology laboratory in the NHS
  • A proven ability to work effectively and sensitively in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of operational laboratory procedures within the NHS in Histopathology and an understanding of Pathology IT requirements
Desirable
  • Experience of analysing data and information and presenting this to a range of users.
  • Specialist knowledge, experience and expertise of information analysis and the use of information across the discipline
  • Demonstrable experience of IT system implementations or practical experience of being involved with projects

Personal Qualities

Essential
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually
  • Able to undertake duties at any of the sites within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Pathology network
  • Must be able to travel efficiently between sites across the network
