Job summary
Chesterman 3 is a Cardiothoracic surgical ward.
It is an exciting opportunity to really make a difference on a ward and contribute to providing a friendly, clean, safe and comfortable environment for the patients and ward staff
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and an ability to work within a team but also use own initiative.
Main duties of the job
1. Care and cleaning of equipment.
2. Cleaning and making beds.
3. Assist patients with meal choice
4. Assist with the setting of tables, serving of meals, clearing crockery during patient meal times
5. Assist the patient with their meal.
6. Cleaning and tidying patient's lockers and bed areas and preparation for admission.
7.Supporting patients waiting for discharge
8. Ensure that the clinical areas and staff/patients servers are restocked on a regular basis and are clean and tidy.
9. Check and report faulty beds, bed lights and patient handsets.
10. Undertake errands, where appropriate, as directed by the nurse in charge.
11. Check, order and put away stores, monitor stock levels.
12. Carry out all duties safely and responsibly, showing awareness of Health and Safety policies, food hygiene and COSHH regulations

Person Specification
Qualifications
- GCSE Grade D/3 Maths & English or equivalent experience
- Valid Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or attainment of Basic REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate (can be completed once in post - one day course)
- Clerical / IT qualification or relevant experience
- Working towards Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF) level 2 or 3 (NVQ2/3)
Experience
- Manual Handling, Fire and Health and Safety Awareness (can be completed once in post)
- Demonstrable ability to use a computer
- Familiar with Microsoft packages and information systems
- Experience of working in a customer service environment.
- Experience in a caring or hotel/catering environment.
- Experience of working at a supervisory level
Special Skills/Aptitudes
- Ability to communicate well within a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to deal with any potentially difficult or sensitive issues
- Understanding of confidentiality in the work place
- Excellent organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise own work load
- Multi skilled
- Willing to undertake RQF training
- Willing to complete job specific and essential training relevant to the housekeeper's role
