Senior Technician (Chemotherapy e-Prescribing)
Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, ambitious, and proactive Pharmacy Technician to join the Chemotherapy e-Prescribing (ChemoCare) team for 12 months as a Senior Pharmacy Technician at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
As part of a well-established multidisciplinary team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, this role offers the chance to develop your clinical skills and experiences within a specialised area of pharmacy. You will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, comprehensive service to all users of the chemotherapy e-prescribing system. You will also contribute to the successful delivery of system developments and improvement projects, ensuring they are completed to agreed timelines and high standards.
The ChemoCare team is based at Beech Hill Road on the Royal Hallamshire Hospital central campus. The team supports the Haematology and Specialised Cancer Services Directorate at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as four partner organisations within the North Trent Cancer Network, to ensure the safe delivery of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will:
Coordinate the Chemotherapy e-prescribing system helpdesk and deal with any problems as they arise.
Coordinate the use of the Chemotherapy e-Prescribing System in conjunction with the System Manager, Chemotherapy e-Prescribing, including implementation of projects and upgrades.
Set up regimens and protocols, including for clinical trials, on the system and follow SOPs through to the sign off and release for use.
Set up drug libraries, including information used to produce worksheets and labels, on the system. This includes new drugs and those used in clinical trials.
Action change requests to the live prescribing system under the supervision ofthe Principal Pharmacist, Chemotherapy e-prescribing and/or the System Manager, Chemotherapy e-Prescribing.
Train pharmacy staff and other users, including nursing staff and administrative staff in the use of the Chemotherapy e-Prescribing System.
Deputise for the System Manager in their absence.
Contribute to the pharmacy departmental services including bank holidays, evenings and weekends.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.
Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- BTEC in Pharmaceutical sciences or equivalent
- NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent
- GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Diploma level IT related subject or equivalent, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
Experience
- Extensive experience within a hospital pharmacy environment
- Experience of processing chemotherapy prescriptions
- Accredited checking status (or equivalent) or working towards
- Experience of using various IT packages (i.e., Microsoft Office, Pharmacy Dispensing System)
- Staff development/training experience
- Experience of working in a team and working unsupervised
- Experience of working within an aseptic unit
- Supervisory experience or willing to undertake a range of short courses in HR and management
- Project management experience
