Accountant – Projects & Process Improvement
Sheridan Maine is delighted to be working with an established and successful organisation to recruit an Accountant – Projects & Process Improvement. This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys the variety of a broad finance role but also has a passion for improving processes and finding better ways of working.Working as part of a small and collaborative team, you will combine your accounting expertise with responsibility for a range of projects focused on process improvement, systems, automation and the effective use of AI.This role would suit an accountant who is looking for something different from a traditional finance position and who enjoys having the opportunity to influence and improve the way an organisation operates.The role is based near the Somerset/Dorset border, with hybrid working available following an initial training and probationary period.The Role You will support the delivery of finance, reporting and compliance activities whilst taking the lead on a number of strategic projects.Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the preparation and review of management accounts, financial statements, VAT returns and audit information.
- Providing management-level review of financial information across a number of entities.
- Maintaining accurate investment information and developing efficient systems for the management of financial and corporate records.
- Supporting company secretarial and corporate governance requirements, including statutory filings and maintenance of company records.
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance and compliance processes through automation, technology and AI.
- Leading projects from initial concept through to implementation, including project planning, system specifications, testing and user adoption.
- Working with software providers and internal stakeholders to implement new systems and improvements.
- Acting as the internal champion for AI, identifying practical and secure ways in which it can improve efficiency, reporting and knowledge management.
- Supporting and training colleagues in the effective use of new systems, technology and processes.
- Driving a continuous programme of process and efficiency improvements across the organisation.
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
- Strong accounting and financial reporting experience.
- Experience of improving finance processes, systems or ways of working.
- A genuine interest in technology, automation and AI, with the confidence to explore how these can be applied practically within a finance environment.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with colleagues, management and external providers.
- A proactive, solution-focused approach and a desire to continually improve processes.
