Job summary
This is a unique opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within Nottinghamshire Health Informatics Service (NHIS), shaping the delivery of critical digital and technical services that directly support patient care across multiple NHS organisations.
As Deputy Head of Technical Operations and Delivery, you will play a pivotal role in leading and transforming large-scale, business-critical IT services. Working closely with the Head of Technical Operations and Delivery and wider senior leadership team, you will help ensure that digital infrastructure, networks, cyber security and end-user services are secure, resilient and capable of meeting the evolving needs of the health and care system.
NHIS is a large, collaborative shared service supporting over 28,000 users across more than 420 sites, offering the scale and complexity to make a real difference while working across organisational boundaries.
This role is ideal for an experienced digital or technical leader who thrives in complex environments, wants to influence at scale, and is motivated by delivering high-quality, safe and sustainable services that improve outcomes for patients and staff.

Person Specification
Knowledge Requirements
- Highly developed specialist knowledge across Technical Operations, including: Digital infrastructure, End user computing, Networks Hosting, Cyber security, Service management
- Significant senior management knowledge and experience in supporting or leading large-scale, business-critical technical services within complex organisations
- In-depth understanding of NHS digital strategy, regulatory requirements, and assurance frameworks, including: Information governance, Cyber security, Service resilience, Business continuity
- Experience operating across multiple organisations or system wide service models
- Experience contributing to national or regional digital initiatives
Contractual Requirements
- Ability to work flexibly, outside normal office hours, in order to suit the needs of the users
- Ability to travel in order to attend meetings/deliver training at point of need
- Clean driving licence and use of own car
Experience
- Extensive experience in a senior management role, including operating as a strong deputy or second-in-command within a complex technical or digital service environment
- Significant experience in a senior IT management role within a complex and demanding environment
- Extensive experience of leading Technical Operations and technical customer service functions
- Experience of managing contracts, including supplier relationships and delivery of individual projects or programmes
- Experience of system procurement processes
- Experience contributing to strategy development and implementation
- Experience in the development and management of service level agreements, commercial contracts and account management
- Experience managing complex and sensitive programmes and projects that require significant clinical and executive engagement for success
- Experience managing significant capital and revenue budgets
- Researching, analysing and presenting information to Executives and Board members
- Successfully managing a diverse team
- Sound IT skills in word processing, spread-sheet, presentation and email software
- Experience of developing and monitoring business continuity and disaster recovery plans for critical IT systems
- Ability to communicate with a diverse group of professionals to very large groups
- Ability to motivate staff, colleagues and stakeholders to achieve the project outcomes
- NHS / public sector experience
- Significant appreciation, knowledge and experience of good IT practice across the acute sector
- Experience of major system procurement
- Significant knowledge of Health Care IT
Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience. Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate study, or willingness to work towards this
- In possession of the PRINCE2 Project Management Foundation Qualification
- ITIL Service Management
- In possession of the PRINCE2 Project Management Practitioner Qualification
- Professionally recognised IM&T qualification and/or management qualification (Cisco, Microsoft etc)
- TOGAF
