Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, organised and forward thinking Digital, Data & Clinical Services Lead to join our friendly and supportive GP practice in Sidmouth.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong digital, analytical and organisational skills to play a key role in shaping how technology, data and clinical workflows support high quality, safe and efficient patient care. Working closely with the senior leadership team and clinical colleagues, you will help optimise digital systems, improve data quality and support the ongoing development of clinical operational workflows, including total triage (Care Compass).

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the effective use and development of digital systems and clinical software
  • Work with clinical and operational teams to improve workflows, access and patient pathways
  • Support data quality, reporting and information governance processes
  • Assist with the implementation and optimisation of digital tools and system changes
  • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and patient experience
  • Support staff in developing confidence and capability in using digital systems and processes

The role combines hands-on coordination and leadership, ensuring systems and processes are running effectively, while supporting decision-making and improvements at an operational level.

Key Objectives of the role include:

Digital & Data Leadership: Provide operational leadership for digital systems, data quality and information governance, helping to ensure that systems, workflows and reporting support safe and effective care.

Clinical Operations Oversight: Oversee clinical workflows, capacity planning and total triage, ensuring efficient coordination of clinical work and optimisation of patient access pathways.

Service Improvement & Transformation: Drive and implement digital and operational improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and patient experience.

Team Coordination & Support: Line manage the IT Lead and Data Lead, providing leadership and guidance to support effective delivery of system administration, reporting and digital support functions.

Compliance & Governance: Ensure adherence to GDPR, NHS digital requirements, data security standards and quality frameworks, supporting safe, compliant and highquality service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

Digital & IT Leadership

  • Line management of the IT Lead, setting priorities, overseeing performance and supporting professional development.
  • Alongside the Practice Manager and external IT support service, oversee and ensure the safe, effective and reliable operation of the practices digital and clinical systems.
  • Oversight of digital processes and system controls to ensure data accuracy, operational resilience and patient safety.
  • Acting as the digital point of contact, coordinating with external suppliers, system providers and NHS IT teams.

Data Quality & Information Governance

  • Line management of the Data Quality Lead, setting priorities, overseeing performance and supporting professional development.
  • Provide oversight and support to ensure effective delivery of data quality, reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with relevant leads to ensure accurate and standardised clinical coding and data capture across the practice.
  • Ownership of data governance processes, ensuring compliance with GDPR, NHS information governance standards and local policies.
  • Work with relevant leads to ensure that reporting, searches, templates and recall systems remain accurate, current and clinically appropriate.

Clinical Operations & Care Compass (Total Triage) Oversight

  • Oversight of the Care Compass total triage model, ensuring digital triage processes are safe, effective and aligned with agreed access principles.
  • Work alongside clinical leads to ensure that incoming clinical demand is triaged appropriately and directed to the right service, clinician or pathway.
  • Use data and operational insight to identify bottlenecks, variation and capacity constraints within the triage and duty system.
  • Work closely with the Care Compass team, Duty Team leads and Partners to optimise workflows, improve patient access and reduce unwarranted variation.
  • Support continuous review and refinement of total triage processes in response to demand, capacity and system changes.

Digital Transformation & Service Improvement

Lead implementation of agreed digital and operational improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality and user experience.

Evaluate, pilot and support the adoption of new digital tools and system enhancements.

Translate ideas and strategic direction into practical changes.

Contribute to wider planning discussions, providing operational insight.

  • Ensuring digital developments align with ICS, PCN and national NHS digital strategies.

Training, Capability & Change Support

  • Ensuring appropriate digital and data capability across clinical and nonclinical teams.
  • Overseeing training approaches for new systems, processes and ways of working.
  • Supporting managers and teams through periods of service change, system implementation or workflow redesign.

Governance, Risk & Assurance

  • Maintaining oversight of risks relating to digital systems, data quality and clinical operational processes.
  • Supporting investigations into incidents, complaints or significant events within remit, helping to ensure learning is identified and embedded.
  • Providing assurance to the Practice Manager and Partners that digital, data and clinical operational risks are appropriately managed.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Representing the practice in relevant digital, data and operational forums at PCN and system level.
  • Working collaboratively with internal leads, external partners and system stakeholders to support service development.
  • Contributing to organisational planning, performance discussions and strategic decisionmaking as required.

Note: The Digital, Data & Clinical Services Lead may also be required to undertake other reasonable duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the practice. The partners reserve the right to adjust responsibilities as necessary, and the Digital, Data & Clinical Services Lead will be consulted regarding significant changes to duties.
