Temporary Laboratory Manager

Signature Recruitment is seeking a Temporary Laboratory Manager for a London-based higher education institution.
This role pays £26.42 per hour plus holiday pay and is available for an immediate start. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in a fully onsite role. The initial contract is three months, with potential to extend to four or five months.
Temporary Laboratory Manager - The Role:
You will provide day-to-day operational and administrative support across laboratory spaces, helping to cover a temporary gap within the team. A thorough handover will be provided, giving you time to understand current processes and priorities.
The role combines practical laboratory support with facilities coordination, finance administration and project work. You will also help plan and coordinate a significant laboratory decant, working with contractors, service providers and colleagues to keep the move organised and minimise disruption.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Managing day-to-day laboratory, facilities, IT and equipment issues and coordinating repairs or external support.
- Overseeing consumables store activity, goods handovers and accurate order records.
- Supporting finance administration for laboratory orders, recharges and project coding, with training provided on relevant systems.
- Raising and monitoring facilities issues, taking ownership of requests through to resolution.
- Booking and coordinating contractors, engineers and external service providers.
- Supporting the planning and delivery of a laboratory decant, including logistics and equipment decommissioning and recommissioning.

Temporary Laboratory Manager - Who We're Looking For:
- Previous experience working within a laboratory environment.
- Good understanding of laboratory health and safety.
- Strong IT skills and confidence learning new systems and processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly around finance administration and documentation.
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills.
- A proactive approach, with confidence taking ownership of issues and knowing when to escalate.
- Experience supporting a laboratory move, decant or similar project would be beneficial.
