About the Role

My client is seeking an experienced Technical Cloud & Infrastructure Lead to design, implement, and manage enterprise-level cloud and infrastructure solutions across a complex UK Central Government environments. The role will focus heavily on IT Asset Management (ITAM) and cloud cost optimisation , leveraging the Flexera platform to ensure visibility, governance, and efficiency across on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments (Azure & AWS estates in particular). This is a remote-based position requiring travel to UK government offices as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the technical strategy, design, and implementation of cloud and infrastructure services aligned with government digital and security standards.
• Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for the Flexera ITAM platform , driving best practices in asset discovery, normalisation, software license management, and cost optimisation.
• Develop and maintain Flexera One configurations, including data connectors, automation policies, dashboards, and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making.
• Provide technical leadership across multi-disciplinary teams, ensuring consistent delivery of secure, scalable, and compliant cloud solutions.
• Collaborate with architecture, procurement, and finance teams to ensure accurate cloud cost management and license compliance across AWS, Azure, and on-prem environments.
• Lead integration of Flexera with other ITSM, CMDB, and monitoring tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Azure DevOps, Splunk).
• Define and implement governance frameworks and operational processes to support ITAM maturity and continuous improvement.
• Provide mentoring and technical guidance to internal teams and external delivery partners.
• Ensure compliance with HMG Cloud Security Principles , NCSC guidelines , and departmental policies.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Proven experience leading cloud and infrastructure initiatives within large, complex organisations (public sector experience highly desirable).
• In-depth knowledge/expert-level knowledge of AWS, Azure, Windows, and Linux (RHEL, Bottle Rocket), Flexera ITAM / Flexera One , including implementation, configuration, and administration.
• Strong technical background across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and on-prem infrastructure .
• Expertise in IT asset lifecycle management , software license compliance , and cloud cost optimisation .
• Familiarity with automation and scripting tools (PowerShell, Python, or Terraform).
• Experience integrating Flexera with ServiceNow , CMDBs , and cloud-native monitoring tools .
• Solid understanding of governance frameworks , ITIL processes , and FinOps principles.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
• Eligible for SC Clearance and resident in the UK with British Passport.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working with UK Central Government departments or agencies. DWP/DBT/Home Office/DTI etc)
• Knowledge of Service frameworks and GDS Service Standards .
• Familiarity with SaaS management , software recognition , and license optimisation within regulated environments.
• Certifications in:
• Flexera Certified Professional
• Microsoft Azure / AWS Certified Solutions Architect
• ITIL v4 Foundation or Practitioner
• FinOps Certified Practitioner
