Business Development Manager
TURN DEFENCE RELATIONSHIPS INTO REAL OPPORTUNITIES.
Steatite, part of the Solid State Group, is looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to grow our presence across the UK defence and secure communications market.
This is a consultative, relationship-led role. You will engage with defence and government customers, understand their operational requirements and work alongside our technical teams to develop solutions that deliver both customer value and commercial growth.
What you will be doing
- Developing relationships across UK defence, government and security customers
- Identifying new business and building a strong pipeline of opportunities
- Managing opportunities through the full sales lifecycle
- Understanding customer requirements and developing commercial solutions
- Preparing proposals, quotations and tender responses
- Supporting bids, pricing and commercial negotiations
- Managing CRM activity, pipeline reporting and forecasting
- Supporting demonstrations, trials, exhibitions and operational exercises
- Promoting our secure communications portfolio, including Wave Relay
- Working closely with Engineering, Commercial and Project teams
- Travelling to customers and partners across the UK and internationally
What we are looking for
You will bring proven business development, account management or commercial sales experience, ideally combined with:
- Experience within defence, government or secure communications
- Knowledge of UK MoD structures and defence procurement
- Strong consultative selling and relationship management skills
- Experience developing and converting sales opportunities
- Proposal, quotation or tender experience
- Commercial negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- CRM and sales forecasting experience
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
Knowledge of tactical or secure communications, MANET, networking, RF or IP communications would be particularly valuable.
We also welcome applications from ex-military professionals with relevant defence and customer-facing experience who can demonstrate the commercial skills required to develop business and build long-term customer relationships.

Security clearance
This role requires Security Check (SC) clearance. Candidates must be willing and able to undergo the relevant security vetting process. Existing SC or DV clearance would be advantageous.
