  • Design Artefacts: Produce clear design deliverables, including user flows, scenarios, wireframes, journey maps, and interaction prototypes.

  • Design Systems & Standards: Utilize and contribute to design systems and design patterns, maintaining consistency across services while ensuring alignment with WCAG and GOV.UK guidelines.

  • Service Transformation: Take an end-to-end view of services to improve the efficiency, speed, and overall usability of public sector platforms.

Research, Testing & Facilitation

  • Evidence-Based Design: Participate in user research activities, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative evidence to inform design decisions and continuous service improvements.

  • Co-Design & Facilitation: Facilitate workshops, co-design sessions, and user testing to explore complex problems, generate ideas, and validate concepts.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Capture and communicate design decisions clearly and confidently, building a strong evidence base to influence stakeholders and colleagues.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • GOV.UK Prototype Kit & Systems: Proven hands-on experience and knowledge of using the GOV.UK Prototype Kit, standard design systems, and design patterns.

  • Government Service Standard: Practical experience working to the Government Service Standard, ideally with service assessment experience across all project phases.

  • Accessibility & Inclusivity: Proven experience designing for usability, accessibility, and inclusivity in line with WCAG standards and GOV.UK design guidelines.

  • Technical Literacy: Strong technical literacy with the ability to understand high-level technical processes, constraints, and engineering concepts.

  • Pragmatic Delivery: Ability to recognize and work effectively within project constraints, ensuring value is delivered consistently to clients and users.

  • Communication & Facilitation: Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation skills, with confidence engaging stakeholders at all levels.

  • Flexibility & Mobility: Openness to working across different sectors and client locations, including hybrid working with travel to our London office and client sites as needed.

  • Service Assessment Leadership: Direct experience leading the interaction design narrative through formal GDS/departmental Service Assessments across Discovery, Alpha, Beta, or Live phases.
