With strong communication skills and a consultative approach, you're comfortable engaging with clients, understanding their needs, and translating them into effective outcomes.

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a dynamic team supporting critical public sector digital infrastructure. In this role, you will design, deploy, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure cloud solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). You will work closely with development teams building services in Python (Flask) and Go, leveraging modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and containerization practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cloud Infrastructure & Automation: Provision and manage secure GCP cloud infrastructure using Terraform, adhering to public sector security and compliance frameworks (eg, NCSC guidelines, Service Standard).

  • Containerization & Orchestration: Build, optimize, and maintain Docker containers and container execution environments across modern GCP platforms (eg, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Run).

  • CI/CD Pipeline Engineering: Design and enhance deployment pipelines to deliver Python (Flask) microservices and Go microservices into development, test, and production environments.

  • Application & Tooling Support: Write utility scripts, internal CLI tooling, or deployment automation natively in Python or Go.

  • Security & Compliance: Implement principle of least privilege (IAM), manage secrets securely, and ensure continuous vulnerability scanning across application images and cloud resources.

  • Monitoring & Reliability: Set up centralized logging, metrics, and alerting (Cloud Monitoring/Logging) to ensure high availability and actionable incident responses.

Required Technical Experience:

  • Cloud Platform - Core GCP services (IAM, VPC, Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Storage, Secret Manager).
  • Infrastructure as Code - Strong experience writing modular, reusable Terraform.
  • Containers - Deep knowledge of Dockerfile best practices, image security, and container execution.
  • Programming/Scripting - Proficiency in Python (supporting Flask services) and Go (tooling or microservice integration).
  • CI/CD - Hands-on experience with modern CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Cloud Build, or Jenkins).

Desirable Criteria:

  • Prior experience delivering projects within UK Public Sector frameworks (GDS/Central Government).

  • Familiarity with public sector security standards and data handling practices.
