Lead Software and Test Technician

 

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Software and Test Technician to join their dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for leading the testing and validation of complex hardware and software systems, ensuring the highest quality and performance for their products. You will leverage your expertise in both software and hardware testing to troubleshoot, analyse, and optimize systems, while also mentoring junior technicians and contributing to continuous process improvement.

 

  • Lead the execution of comprehensive functional, diagnostic, and performance tests on complex digital and RF systems and subassemblies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain test procedures, scripts, and automation tools (e.g., using Python, C++) to enhance testing efficiency and coverage.
  • Perform in-depth troubleshooting and root cause analysis of hardware and software defects, collaborating closely with engineering teams to identify and implement solutions.
  • Set up, deploy, and operate a wide range of test equipment, including but not limited to RF signal generators, scalar and network analysers, oscilloscopes, and power supplies.
  • Collect, analyse, and record precise performance data, preparing comprehensive and accurate test reports.
  • Support engineers with technical documentation, schematics, and specifications, and perform necessary calculations.
  • Conduct initial tests on new, modified or returned equipment, providing recommendations for improvements and optimization.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior test technicians, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of testing processes, methodologies, and tools.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Accurately document assembly processes, including any deviations or non-conformances using applicable ERP/MRP and JIRA applications.
  • Collaborate effectively with other team members, including engineers, quality assurance personnel, and production colleagues.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance assembly processes and efficiency.
  • Handle and transport sensitive electronic components with care and adherence to electrostatic discharge (ESD) prevention measures.
  • Ensure timely completion of assigned tasks to meet production deadlines.

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in testing and troubleshooting complex electronic and software systems, preferably within a defense or aerospace environment.
  • Strong understanding of electronic principles, manufacturing processes, and advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for test automation (e.g., Python, C++).
  • Familiarity with various test equipment and their operation (e.g., spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, oscilloscopes, DMMs).
  • Ability to read and interpret complex schematics, technical specifications, and blueprints.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
