Storage and Backup Infrastructure Engineer

Sopra Steria's Aerospace Defence and Security sector are currently recruiting for a Storage and Backup Engineer with the ability to hit the ground running and make a real difference in the team. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with previous experience in SAN, NAS and backup technologies who is looking to develop their skills and become a technical expert. This role sits within a group level account putting you in the best place to progress.
This role is based on site at one of our regional hubs (Newport, Portsmouth or Stevenage) approximately 4 days per week.
Due to the nature of the client we are only able to progress with sole British citizens eligible for SC clearance.
What you'll be doing:
- Enthusiastic and keen to learn, looking to acquire the knowledge required to be a point of technical escalation.
- Strong customer focus encompassing BAU ticketing and task management across Storage and Backup spaces.
- Performing capacity planning, performance tuning, and storage optimisation across multiple environments.
- Working with projects team as required - Includes supporting upcoming unique, large scale, one of a kind, European-wide project.
What you'll bring:
- Working knowledge of storage services, hardware deployment, configuration, and administration (NetApp experience preferred).
- Strong Knowledge of NAS/SAN provisioning, NFS/SMB shares, storage virtual machines (SVMs).
- Experience upgrading storage appliances and processes required to do so.
- Knowledge of fibre channel zoning and LUN creation (preferable).
- Experience with Backup tooling and technologies (Veeam preferable). Snapshot-based backups and robotic library systems knowledge.
- Administration of backup technologies, policy design, scheduling, retention plans and restore and recovery workflows.
- Previous experience with regulatory, encryption, retention, and audit requirements a bonus.
