Infrastructure Engineer

We are looking to welcome an experienced ICT Infrastructure Engineer to join our IT Service Operations Team, where you will play a key role in implementing and supporting our IT Infrastructure.

In this role, your primary responsibility will be to support our core network and virtualised environment (VxRail / VMware), whilst also supporting the wider Infrastructure Team with our Microsoft technologies (M365, Azure, Security solutions).

You will be involved in proactive maintenance, incident troubleshooting, creating and maintaining documentation, and providing expert technical advice. You'll also contribute to projects that directly support the Council's success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and administer the network and virtualised server infrastructure, ensuring systems remain secure and fit for purpose.
  • Investigate and resolve incidents escalated from the IT Service Desk, supporting the ICT Infrastructure Manager on more complex issues.
  • Proactively identify and implement continuous service improvements, with clear knowledge transfer and documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with our network and firewall managed service providers to resolve issues and implement requests.

About You

You will hold a relevant degree or professional/vocational qualification in Information Technology (ideally CCNA or CompTIA Network+), or be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of IT infrastructure and systems architecture.
  • Hands-on experience in implementation, support, and operations of technologies including M365, Active Directory, server administration, firewalls, networks, VMware virtualisation, and cloud hosting solutions.
  • A strong track record in IT security, including firewalls, proxies, policies, and networks.
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining remote access solutions, and managing/monitoring email and internet access.
