Working with a wide range of healthcare datasets, including EMIS and NHS data sources, you will design dashboards, analyse performance, identify trends and opportunities, and provide intelligence that supports strategic decision-making and service improvement.

Main duties of the job

Assess business needs for data and analytics and facilitate the implementation of an effective system to bring data together from multiple sources.

Develop, design, and maintain BI reports and dashboards that visualise data in an insightful and user-friendly manner.

Analyse and understand the data and provide insight and analysis through clear visual, writ-ten, and verbal communication.

Data modelling - create and manage data models in BI to ensure data accuracy and consistency.

Data integration - collaborate with stakeholder teams to access, clean, and integrate data from various sources.

Performance optimisation - identify and implement optimisations for data visualisation and reporting to enhance efficiency.

Provide sector and competitor benchmarking.

Data governance - ensure data quality, security, and compliance with industry regulations.

User training and support - train end-users on how to effectively use BI reports and provide ongoing support and guidance.

Supporting, maintaining, and refining existing reports and dashboards, working closely with data owners to ensure these are fit-for-purpose and streamlined.

Job responsibilities

Business Intelligence is an essential part of our organisations infrastructure to support the delivery of our strategy and goals for the future.

The post holder will work with data from EMIS, Mental Health systems, NHS datasets, and other healthcare information sources to provide meaningful insight that supports operational performance, service development, population health management, and strategic decision-making.

This role will support the requirement to develop and implement business intelligence solutions within the business, creating automated category insights.

The role will provide ongoing assessment of business needs for data and analytics, and delivery of an appropriate platform.

This role will use data manipulation and analysis, to inform effective decision-making for improvements and drive actions to increase efficiency within processes. This level of BI will inform a continuous improvement approach to enhance quality, productivity, reduce cost, and meet and exceed service expectations.

The role will build strong relationships at all levels of the organisation to understand how the business works, adhering to data governance standards to ensure best practice and compliance is embedded. This role will also work withing the leadership team to ensure any new digital infrastructure and reporting requirements are captured and included.

The role will support the development of a data-driven culture through the provision of accurate, timely and actionable intelligence across the organisation

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills

Essential
  • Proven experience of working in a Business Intelligence / Analyst role or similar, preferably within a health care setting
  • Experience of advanced database interrogation
  • Previously worked with large datasets
  • Experience developing and maintaining dashboards and management reports
  • Experience of data analysis using multiple tools
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, ensuring deadlines are met within a busy working environment.
  • Strong analytical skills set with an ability to think strategically
  • Experience analysing large and complex datasets
  • Experience presenting analytical findings to senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of data quality, data governance, and information management principles
  • Healthcare metrics and data management
  • Experience working with EMIS Web
  • Experience working with Mental Health datasets

Qualifications

Essential
  • A good general standard of education, with GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above.
  • Advanced Excel
  • Trained in one or more of the following:
  • - Data analysis tools: advanced Excel, SQL
  • - BI tools: Power BI, Tableau, Qlik
  • - Databases & data warehousing concepts
  • - Data visualisation and reporting
  • Demonstrable experience using Power BI or equivalent Business Intelligence software.
Desirable
  • Programming Python or Advanced qualifications in

  • Proven experience in BI development dashboards, automated reporting, data pipelines.

  • Experience working with healthcare datasets including EMIS, Mental Health systems, NHS Digital datasets, SUS, or similar
