Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a clinical pharmacist to join South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust as a Directorate Lead Pharmacist for the Medicine Directorate with an interest in Gastroenterology.

You will be responsible for providing Directorate lead support to the Medicine Team delivering our Integrated Medicines Management (IMM) service across a range of Medicine wards in the Trust. You will lead and co-manage the Team along with Directorate Lead colleagues, to ensure a high-quality delivery of our IMM service which delivers pharmaceutical care from admission, through any inpatient stay and beyond discharge, into Primary Care. You will be required to lead and co-ordinate the professional clinical input into the management and development of services in the designated Directorates(s) and will provide expert advice and undertake risk management, financial management and governance activities. As such, the role involves the combination of advanced-level service delivery and team management resulting in multi-skill development and contribution.

Main duties of the job

You will have evidence of effective service delivery at a specialist pharmacist level, post-graduate study to Diploma level and well-developed clinical pharmacy skills in an acute medical or surgical specialty preferably with an independent prescribing qualification. The Pharmacy Service operates a seven-day clinical service with routine support of both junior pharmacists and integrated medicines management technicians.

Job responsibilities

To lead and co-ordinate the professional clinical input into the management and development of the Pharmacy service to the designated Directorate(s).

To provide expert advice in the designated Directorate(s) undertaking risk management, financial management and clinical governance activities.

To monitor in conjunction with other Directorate Leads the performance of pharmacists working in the Directorate(s), to undertake clinical supervision and internal and external teaching.

To work at an advanced level in the designated areas of practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy.
  • Post-graduate study to Diploma level or equivalent experience.
  • MRPharmS.
  • Evidence of CPD in-line with requirements of GPhC.
  • Can demonstrate management of resources, delivery of objectives in-line with national priorities, participation in policy development and leadership of a team.
Desirable
  • Prescribing qualification.
  • Advanced Clinical Skills.

Experience

Essential
  • Evidence of effective service delivery of direct patient care at specialist practice level.
  • Close and effective working with medical staff.
  • Leadership of audit projects and / or research.
  • Clinical mentoring or Pre-registration tutor.
  • Evidence of delivering successful change programmes.
Desirable
  • Research and evidence of publications.
  • Teaching at higher education level.
