Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Technician to join South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust as Pharmacy Informatics Manager. This is a new Post, and you will be responsible for the operational management, organisation and service delivery of the Pharmacy Informatics Service. You will assist in the development and further implementation of the electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) across the Trust.
The Trust is currently working towards the implementation of a significant upgrade to the current system; therefore this is an exciting time to join the Team and make a difference.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the operational management, organisation and service delivery of the pharmacy informatics service within the Trust. This will include:
Supporting ePMA system configuration, system development and testing.
Training and supporting all staff involved with the ePMA process (pharmacy, prescribers, nurses).
Working with the ePMA pharmacists to deal effectively with any issues arising to ensure that the ePMA system is fit for purpose.
To act as a champion for ePMA, engaging staff and promoting the benefits of ePMA, ensuring that roll-out is implemented in a safe manner.
To develop, review, revise and implement informatics guidelines, protocols and documentation to be used within the organisation relating to medicines and pharmacy.
To be a member of the Pharmacy Senior Management Team and to support senior pharmacy technicians in other elements of the Pharmacy service,
You will be required to participate in evening, weekend and bank holiday rotas.

Person Specification
Experience
- Significant post-qualifying experience in a hospital environment, including experience at a senior level, including delivering medicines management services at Ward level, the management of staff and experience in the setting up of new/additional services.
- Significant experience in the management of pharmacy informatics.
- A general awareness of NHS strategic documents affecting pharmacy.
- Experience of working with Meditech.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services and approved underpinning knowledge e.g. BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent recognised pharmacy technician qualification.
- Registered as a pharmacy technician with General Pharmaceutical Council.
- Evidence of continued professional development complying with the requirements as set out by the General Pharmaceutical Council to maintain registration.
- Clinical Pharmacy Medicines Management Qualification or equivalent.
- Recognised Accredited-Checking Technician qualification with significant experience working in that role.
- Holds an NVQ Assessor Award D32/D33/D34 with practical experience of working as an NVQ Assessor.
- Pharmacy Management / Leadership course or equivalent.
Skills & Knowledge
- Demonstrable ability to analyse and overcome barriers in implementation of change.
- Demonstrable excellent workload and time-management skills and the ability to prioritise personal and team workload.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication in dealing with patients, clinicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Law and Ethics relating to the dispensing of medicines.
- Knowledge and evidence of preparing procedures and guidelines.
- Working knowledge of current COSHH and Health and Safety legislation.
- Management skills.
Physical Skills
- Dispenses pharmaceutical products for individual patients observing safe handling techniques for cytotoxic materials.
- Able to undertake periods at a workstation in order to: use electronic systems for various activities such as labelling, dispensing, stock management, emails and production of documents. And use electronic systems for various activities such as accessing patient records, consultation recording, emails and production of documents.
