We're working with a well-established engineering and technology business looking to appoint an experienced IT Systems Manager to lead its internal IT function.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong technical background who enjoys combining hands-on infrastructure management with team leadership, strategic planning and continual service improvement.

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of IT services across multiple sites, leading a small internal team and managing third-party suppliers to ensure secure, reliable and high-performing IT systems that support the wider business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the internal IT support team.
  • Take ownership of the organisation's IT infrastructure, systems and services.
  • Ensure high levels of availability, performance and security across the IT estate.
  • Manage incidents, problems, changes and service improvements in line with ITIL best practice.
  • Oversee Microsoft 365, infrastructure, networking and security technologies.
  • Manage relationships with external suppliers and service providers.
  • Contribute to IT strategy, budgeting and future technology planning.
  • Support cyber security initiatives, compliance activities and ongoing accreditation programmes.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and asset management processes.

About you

You'll ideally have experience managing an IT team within a complex business environment and be comfortable balancing operational delivery with longer-term planning.

You'll also have:

  • Previous experience managing enterprise IT infrastructure and services.
  • Strong Microsoft infrastructure and Microsoft 365 knowledge.
  • Good networking and cyber security experience.
  • Experience with ITIL service management principles.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working within regulated or compliance-driven environments would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials or similar security frameworks would be beneficial.

What's on offer

  • Opportunity to shape and develop the internal IT function.
  • Varied role combining leadership and technical responsibility.
  • Stable, growing organisation investing in technology.
  • Supportive working environment with opportunities for professional development.

If you're looking for a role where you can make a genuine impact while remaining close to the technology, we'd love to hear from you.
