Desktop Engineer

Desktop Engineer - 5 months Contract - £200/day Inside IR35 - Stoke-on-Trent onsite - SCC FLEX CONTRACT

We are seeking a skilled Desktop Engineer responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for end-user computing environments. This role ensures the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of desktop systems, hardware, and software across the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, excellent customer service, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Your responsibilities as a Desktop Engineer:

  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop hardware, operating systems, and software applications
  • Provide support for end-user issues, escalating when necessary
  • Manage and troubleshoot Windows and Mac OS environments, including patching and updates
  • Support remote access tools, VPNs, and mobile device management (MDM) platforms
  • Maintain inventory of hardware and software assets; assist with asset life cycle management
  • Collaborate with IT teams to deploy new systems and upgrades
  • Monitor system performance and proactively resolve issues
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and procedures
  • Document technical procedures, solutions, and user guides
  • Assist with onboarding/offboarding processes, including account setup and device provisioning
  • Participate in IT projects and initiatives as needed

As a suitable Desktop Engineer, you will have:

  • Proven experience in desktop support or engineering roles
  • Strong knowledge of Windows 10/11, macOS, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and SCCM or Intune
  • Experience with ticketing systems (eg, ServiceNow, Jira)
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft MCP, or ITIL are a plus
