Disaster Recovery (DR) Specialist £550 per day via Umbrella - 3-month contract Eastleigh Hybrid SCC Flex Contract

We are seeking a highly skilled Disaster Recovery (DR) Planning & Implementation Specialist to support a major data centre migration programme. This role requires an expert who can lead the end-to-end DR strategy, covering planning, architecture design, implementation, testing, and full operational readiness to ensure business continuity throughout the transition.

Your responsibilities as the Disaster Recovery (DR) Specialist:

  • Define and document a comprehensive Disaster Recovery strategy, aligned to organisational resilience objectives.
  • Oversee data centre closure and opening activities, guaranteeing continuity and resilience throughout site transitions.
  • Develop detailed DR runbooks, migration playbooks, and governance frameworks, ensuring complete coverage of critical applications, infrastructure, and data.
  • Plan and execute the consolidation of multiple data centres into a single environment, assessing risks, dependencies, and ensuring robust failover capability with minimal downtime.
  • Establish and manage DR and High Availability (HA) testing cycles, including regular failover and recovery drills.
  • Validate RTO/RPO targets against business requirements and oversee remediation where gaps exist.
  • Design multi-site DR architectures (active-active/active-passive) and integrate DR solutions using VMware, Zerto, and storage replication technologies.
  • Lead RFP processes, vendor selection, and managed service implementation, ensuring providers meet DR and HA compliance standards.

As a successful Disaster Recovery (DR) Specialist, you will have:

  • A proven track record in end-to-end DR planning and implementation within large enterprise environments.
  • Strong expertise in DR architectures, failover strategies, resilience frameworks, and producing DR governance documentation.
  • Technical proficiency with VMware vSphere/ESXi, Zerto replication, SAN/NAS storage replication, and physical infrastructure planning (eg Rackspace).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based DR solutions, including Azure Site Recovery and AWS Elastic Disaster Recovery, and experience delivering hybrid architecture models.
  • Hands-on experience supporting data centre migrations, including network reconfiguration, IP schema changes, and phased migration delivery.
  • Strong understanding of managed services governance, vendor coordination, and RFP processes for DR and infrastructure services.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders effectively.
