My client, an established technology business operating across international markets, is looking to recruit a Senior Python Software Engineer to join its growing engineering function based in Watford.

This is an opportunity to join a small, highly capable engineering team responsible for building and supporting business-critical platforms and services. You'll have genuine ownership over the solutions you develop, working across design, implementation, testing and production while collaborating closely with Product and wider business stakeholders.

The role is heavily focused on modern Back End Python engineering, particularly the development of high-throughput, message-driven platforms and API-first services. They are looking for someone with strong engineering judgement who can design for scale, make pragmatic technical decisions and solve complex problems without unnecessarily over-engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable Back End services using Python 3.10+ and FastAPI.

• Build high-performance, reliable and maintainable RESTful APIs and API-first services.

• Develop solutions within message-driven and event-driven architectures.

• Take ownership of technical problems from initial design through to implementation and production.

• Build and support cloud-native applications within a modern Azure environment.

• Work with containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes.

• Contribute to shared libraries and reusable components used across multiple services.

• Maintain high engineering standards through automated testing, code reviews and technical documentation.

• Collaborate directly with Product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.

• Contribute to technical decisions, engineering standards and the ongoing evolution of the platform.

Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience developing Back End applications using Python.

• Experience with Python 3.10+ and modern Python development practices.

• Experience building APIs using FastAPI, Flask, Django or similar Python frameworks.

• Strong understanding of RESTful API design, schema validation and OpenAPI/Swagger.

• Experience with messaging or event-driven technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, MQTT or similar.

• Cloud development experience - Azure preferred, although AWS or GCP experience is equally relevant.

• Experience with Docker and ideally Kubernetes.

• Strong understanding of automated testing and software engineering best practices.

• Experience building and supporting reliable production software.

• Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
