Backend Developer - Node.js/TypeScript
Fully Remote | £60,000-£70,000 | UK/Europe
We're working with a growing financial technology business that is looking for a strong Back End Engineer to join its engineering team.
This is a fully remote opportunity for someone with 4+ years of commercial software development experience, particularly strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript and cloud technologies.
You'll be working on a high-scale platform used by financial institutions and businesses, helping to build and improve scalable, secure and reliable Back End services.
The role
You'll work as part of a cross-functional engineering team, contributing to the development of new products as well as improving and evolving the existing platform.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing Back End web applications and services using Node.js and TypeScript
- Designing and developing scalable APIs and services
- Contributing to architecture and technical decisions
- Working with event-driven and microservice architectures
- Working with distributed messaging systems such as SQS, RabbitMQ or Kafka
- Integrating new technologies and frameworks
- Supporting and improving existing applications and codebases
- Working with cloud technologies, particularly AWS
- Using AI tools across the software development life cycle
- Contributing to engineering standards and continuous improvement
What we're looking for
- 4+ years of commercial software development experience
- Strong commercial experience with Node.js and TypeScript
- Strong understanding of modern Back End development, APIs, services and architecture
- Experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform
- Experience with microservices and event-driven architecture
- Experience with messaging technologies such as SQS, RabbitMQ or Kafka
- Good understanding of application security and scalable system design
- Comfortable working independently and picking up new technologies
- Strong communication skills and good spoken/written English
- Someone who enjoys working collaboratively and contributing to a positive engineering culture
Desirable
- AWS cloud-native development
- Infrastructure as Code
- Experience within financial services, fintech or another regulated environment
- Experience working with AI-assisted development tools
- Experience with coding agents or modern AI development practices
