Full Stack Engineer (Contract) - AI-Powered Prototypes Location: Remote - full right to work in the UK required Commitment: Full-time, 3-6 month contract Start Date: ASAP

A key client of Sphere's ar an early-stage startup building an AI-native learning experience to help young adults develop essential life and career skills. Their first prototype focuses on communication - using AI to simulate real-world scenarios and deliver personalised feedback.

Sphere are looking for a Full Stack Engineer to lead the build and delivery of monthly MVPs at this key client. If you're passionate about shipping fast, working at the intersection of learning and AI, and love iterating with users, this could be a great fit.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end prototype delivery: Build, launch, and iterate on MVPs across front-end and back-end.

  • Front end: Create clean, responsive web/mobile interfaces for interactive learning flows.

  • Back end: Develop and manage APIs, data storage, and backend logic to support AI features and assessments.

  • AI integration: Work closely with the technical lead to integrate third-party AI tools (LLMs, voice/video APIs, multimodal services).

  • Ship fast, learn fast: Launch a new prototype every month, incorporating user and team feedback quickly.

  • Infrastructure: Set up hosting, deployment pipelines, and lightweight QA/testing for small pilot releases.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally: Work with learning strategists and designers to translate educational flows into working product experiences.

  • Design with scalability in mind: While focused on prototypes, keep an eye on future productisation and technical debt.

What They're Looking For

  • Full stack capability: Strong experience with front-end frameworks (e.g. React, Next.js, React Native) and back-end systems (e.g. Node.js, Python).

  • AI integrations: Hands-on experience integrating AI tools and services (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, Pinecone, speech/video APIs).

  • Prototype mindset: You've built MVPs in fast-moving environments and are comfortable with ambiguity.

  • Cloud/data experience: Familiar with AWS, GCP, or Firebase; experience working with APIs and databases.

  • Delivery focus: You can ship functional, reliable software quickly - with just enough polish for live testing.

  • Strong communicator: You collaborate well with non-technical teammates, including educators and designers.

Bonus Experience

  • Working on edtech, coaching, or learning products.

  • Media integration (video/audio).

  • Building dashboards or data visualisations.

  • Experience designing for or working with young adult users 16 years +
