Assistant Communication and Interpretation Specialist (English to Japanese)

12-Month Contract | Inside IR35 | Mostly Remote | Occasional Travel to Liverpool | Immediate Start

We're partnering with a global technology and entertainment business to find a fluent English Japanese Communication & Interpretation Specialist to support international teams working on cutting-edge software and technology projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative global team, providing high-quality translation and interpretation services that enable seamless communication between English and Japanese-speaking stakeholders.

The role is predominantly remote, with occasional travel to the Liverpool office as business needs require.

The Role

As the Assistant Communication & Interpretation Specialist, you'll play a key role in supporting global teams through accurate, culturally appropriate communication across a variety of business functions.

You'll be responsible for both written translation and consecutive interpretation, helping teams collaborate effectively across meetings, workshops, documentation and internal communications.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Deliver high-quality English Japanese written translations across a wide range of business materials, including emails, presentations, documents, internal communications, tickets and digital content.
  • Provide consecutive interpretation during project meetings, workshops, one-to-ones and cross-functional discussions.
  • Support internal events through live voice-over interpretation where required.
  • Ensure translations accurately reflect tone, intent and cultural nuance for the intended audience.
  • Work with Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, maintaining translation memories and glossaries to improve consistency and quality.
  • Carry out post-editing and linguistic quality assurance where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across multiple global regions to deliver seamless follow-the-sun translation support.
  • Prioritise workloads, manage translation requests and communicate effectively with stakeholders regarding timelines and delivery.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance translation processes and team ways of working.
What We're Looking For
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Japanese (JLPT N1 / TOEIC 900 or equivalent highly desirable).
  • At least one year's professional experience translating between English and Japanese.
  • Strong experience translating business communications in a professional environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience providing consecutive interpretation within a business setting.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • A proactive, organised and collaborative approach to work.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience using CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools.
  • Previous experience translating customer-facing or public-facing content.
  • Knowledge of the gaming, software development or wider technology industries.
  • Experience supporting global or international teams.
  • Simultaneous interpretation experience would be advantageous.
