Firewall Engineer

Job Position: Sophos XGS 2100 Firewall Consultant

Location: London, United Kingdom (Onsite / Remote)

Day Rate: £450 - £500 (OutsideIR35)

Contract Type: 1 Month (Target: 25th Nov - 25th Dec)

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on firewall consultant to support a high-priority internal project for a confidential client. The role will involve reviewing the existing SonicWall NSA 3600 configuration, providing consultancy on security feature implementation, and delivering full deployment, configuration, testing, and migration of a Sophos XGS 2100 HA setup. The consultant will work closely with local IT resources and may be required to provide out-of-hours migration support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review existing SonicWall NSA 3600 configuration and provide design recommendations
• Deploy and configure Sophos XGS 2100 HA firewalls
• Implement security feature sets, VPNs, routing, and firewall rules
• Configure client VPN with SSO to Entra and VPN to Azure
• Test and validate configuration, traffic flows, and failover
• Support onsite migration from SonicWall to Sophos, including out-of-hours work if required
• Collaborate with local IT support team and stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition

Required Skills & Experience:

• Proven hands-on experience with Sophos XGS firewalls, preferably in HA setups
• Experience with firewall replacement/migration, ideally from SonicWall
• Strong knowledge of network security, including routing, NAT, VLANs, IPS, web filtering, app control, and sandboxing
• Experience configuring VPNs, SSO integrations (Entra), and Azure connectivity
• Consultancy experience to review current configurations and recommend security features
• Ability to work onsite and out-of-hours where necessary
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Experience within IT services, consultancy, or enterprise networks
