The Opportunity
You’ll join a highly skilled IP Network Infrastructure Design team within a broader Connectivity Engineering function, responsible for the architecture and design of large-scale, mission-critical networks. These include mobile MPLS core, data centres, internet connectivity, remote access platforms, and enterprise environments.
This is a senior-level role acting as an IP Network Design Principal / Technical Design Authority (TDA), contributing to the evolution, performance, and resilience of complex IP networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain network hardware and software in line with vendor support and internal design policies
- Ensure network capacity meets evolving traffic demands and forecasts
- Lead the integration of new services into existing infrastructure
- Produce high-quality design documentation, test plans, and implementation strategies
- Support testing, deployment, and service migration activities
- Monitor network performance against KPIs and develop improvement plans
- Define and evolve network standardisation policies
- Evaluate vendor releases, bug fixes, and security advisories
- Design routing solutions to meet resilience and service targets
- Collaborate with suppliers and attend technical review meetings
- Ensure compliance with architecture, regulatory, data protection, and security requirements
- Conduct peer reviews and support governance of design standards
- Engage with operational teams to ensure smooth transition into live environments
- Provide expert consultancy across network design projects
- Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives
Essential Skills & Experience
- Cisco certification (CCIE not required)
- Strong experience in IP, MPLS, and BGP design within a service provider environment
- Deep understanding of IP networking protocols and architectures
- Hands-on experience with Cisco (CRS, ASR, 7600) and Juniper (MX, PTX) platforms
- Knowledge of telecommunications transmission systems
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts
- Experience with change control processes
- Background in hardware and software testing
Desirable
- Experience within a mobile network operator environment
- Knowledge of RADIUS, QoS, DNS, or session management technologies
- Experience in network build and support
- Juniper certifications (JNCIE, JNCIP, etc.)
- Exposure to TSA implementation or standards
- Flexibility to support occasional out-of-hours changes
- Strong collaboration and technical leadership skills
