Job summary
At SWLP, The PoCT team manages a wide range of PoCT analysers and devices, connected to POCT middleware systems, across five sites and manages maintenance, training, competency, quality assurance and governance of these pieces of equipment. The SWLP Point of Care Testing department is accredited to the ISO 15189:2022 standard
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced individual to the role of POCT Associate Practitioner for the SWLP network. The post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of POCT devices and analysers. they will assist the POCT Manager in the implementation of the Trust wide POCT Policy. This includes staff training/competency assessment, e-learning, IT, hardware and software supports, SOPs, audit, stock checks and contribution to accreditation.
Each SWLP site has an engaged PoCT Committee with good representation from users across the hospital. The post-holder will work relatively independently, supported by the SWLP POCT manager, POCT coordinator, BMS/MLA staff and the Principal Clinical Biochemist on each site to deliver and facilitate training on a range of POCT devices and analysers. Given the outward facing nature of this role, the successful individual will need to have significant POCT experience, extensive experience in the delivery and facilitation of POCT training, and good organisational and communication skills.
Main duties of the job
1. To assist and support the Advanced Biomedical Scientist (POCT Co-ordinator) and POCT Manager in providing a professional POCT service.2. To contribute to the efficient and effective running of the POCT service as appropriate.3. To provide clinical technical services to patients that may include research and audit samples.4. To use interpretive and technical skills to assist in determining the clinical significance ofresults of POCT tests.

Qualifications and Training
- Foundation degree
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- Biomedical Sciences accredited degree
Knowledge and Experience
- Proven experience of working in a diagnostic pathology department
- Practical experience of a range of diagnostic pathology techniques
- Experience of working with a laboratory computer system and POCT middleware systems.
- Experience of Quality Management Systems
- Technical knowledge of the maintenance and servicing requirements of the wide range of POCT devices and analysers
- Supervisory skills / experience

- Intermediate level of computer skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).
