An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and analytical individual to join the Data Quality & Income Recovery Team as a Data Quality & Income Recovery Assistant Manager for a career break cover.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting the Trust's data quality assurance and income optimisation agenda. Working closely with the Data Quality & Income Recovery leadership team, you will help drive improvements in data accuracy, completeness, and reporting integrity, ensuring the Trust receives appropriate reimbursement for the services it provides. Particular emphasis will be placed on improving outpatient procedure recording and elective admission data quality within the organisation, supporting both operational performance and income recovery.

You will provide specialist expertise in identifying data quality issues, emerging trends, and areas of financial risk. Through detailed analysis and investigation, you will work with services across the Trust to implement sustainable solutions that improve data capture at source, reduce errors, and strengthen compliance with NHS data standards, national reporting requirements, and contractual obligations.

Main duties of the job

Support efficient management of DQ & Income Recovery Team and deputise where appropriate.

Lead and coordinate proactive data quality reviews across clinical services, identifying trends, risks and opportunities for improvement.

Support the development of data quality policies, procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs, QRGs, Workflow mapping).

Work closely with Finance, Contracting, Clinical Coding and Operational teams to ensure accurate submission of activity and income.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and analyse data quality performance using internal reports, SLAM data, NHS Data Quality Metrics, dashboards, and local validation tools to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Investigate complex data quality issues, providing specialist advice and recommendations to support timely and sustainable corrective actions.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain data quality monitoring and validation processes to improve the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of patient activity data.
  • Lead the governance, audit and sign-off of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) solutions, investigating discrepancies, investigating failed coding outcomes, and supporting the ongoing development of automation logic for outpatient procedure coding.
  • Support the review, validation, and sign-off of new appointment types within iCLIP and associated systems, ensuring appropriate assignment of main specialty, treatment function, tariff classifications, and activity recording.
  • Contribute to pathway redesign programmes and service improvement projects, including the implementation of national Coding and Counting changes, ensuring successful delivery and post-implementation monitoring.
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of Data Quality Policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Quick Reference Guides (QRGs), and workflow documentation.
  • Review and continuously improve existing data collection, validation, and correction processes, implementing value-added changes that enhance efficiency, data quality, and governance.
  • Lead specialist validation initiatives to identify lost, under-reported, or inaccurate income opportunities across Admitted Patient Care (APC), Outpatients (OP), Emergency Care (EC), and other activity streams.
  • Work closely with Income Recovery Coordinators, operational teams, and clinical services to improve documentation standards, data capture processes, and income recovery outcomes.
  • Undertake complex validation reviews, data audits, and investigations to ensure the integrity of patient activity and financial reporting.
  • Ensure all data corrections and amendments comply with NHS Data Standards, national guidance, information governance requirements, and local policies.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Contracting, Clinical Coding, Informatics, Patient Administration, and Operational teams to support the accurate recording, submission, and reimbursement of clinical activity.
  • Support the recovery of commissioner income by proactively identifying emerging data quality issues, assessing financial impact, and implementing preventative controls to address issues at source.
  • Review and monitor monthly SLAM outputs to identify opportunities for service improvement, income optimisation, and risk mitigation, providing financial impact assessments where required.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of NHS data standards, payment mechanisms, commissioning requirements, and Points of Delivery (POD) classifications to provide specialist advice across the organisation.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, inclusivity, and collaboration, championing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) principles and supporting team development initiatives.

  • Educated to degree level or minimum 4 years equivalent experience in healthcare information, finance, data management or related field.
  • Knowledge of NHS data quality, information management aspects and / or income recovery processes in relation to data
  • Evidence of continuous self development
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret complex information
  • Experience working within NHS information, data quality, finance or performance
  • Experience of analysing healthcare datasets and understanding if data processes
Desirable
