About us
St Johns Hospice was founded as a charity in 1986 and provides specialist in-patient and community-based palliative care and support to adults in North Lancashire, the South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire. St Johns Hospice is held in deep affection by the local community, its staff and volunteers, so this is no ordinary Director role.
All our care is free of charge to the patients and their loved ones but, of course, it isn't free to provide, with two thirds of the annual income funded through the generosity of the local community. It costs almost £8 million a year to run St Johns Hospice, and you will play a strategic role in managing these resources, without which we cannot provide the huge range of services the community relies on.
The St John's Hospice Vision: Putting local patients and families at the heart of everything we do will ensure that on the journey towards the end of life and through bereavement, we provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time.
St Johns currently has 230 employees across the organisation, and is generously supported by over 550 volunteers who are an integral part of the Hospice team.
St John's is governed by a Trustee Board that takes overall responsibility for its work and is managed by a Senior Management Team.
The Hospice is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and the responsibility for its governance and management falls on our Board of Trustees.
