Location: Hybrid / Main Base Taunton

Contract: Permanent

Working Pattern: Full time

Salary: £37,260 per annum

The Interview Process

As part of the selection process, we will assess your technical and analytical skills.

You will be given an anonymised data set ahead of your interview and expected to create a Power BI report, along with providing some general analysis. This will form part of the presentation component of your interview.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the development and management of the Microsoft Fabric Data Platform, working with colleagues and our Data Engineering Resource to ensure reliability and scalability.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimise PowerBI reports, dashboards, and datasets for operational, strategic, and Trustee-level reporting.
  • Carry out data analysis at descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and (where possible) prescriptive levels using PowerBI, SQL, and statistical techniques.
  • Work closely with stakeholders across all departments to gather requirements, shape reporting solutions, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate through Azure DevOps to plan and deliver realistic reporting and analytics projects.
  • Contribute to improving data processes, modelling, and governance, staying current with emerging technologies and exploring opportunities to use AI and automation.
  • Share knowledge and provide training, helping colleagues get the best out of BI tools while supporting a resilient analytics function.

Job responsibilities

Data quality & integrity

  • Ensure data across all systems is accurate, complete, and consistent, supporting reliable reporting and analysis.
  • Monitor, identify, and resolve data quality issues in collaboration with colleagues and Data Stewards and Owners for individual systems.
  • Implement and refine data validation processes that safeguard integrity throughout the data lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the development of organisation-wide data quality frameworks, standards, and best practices.
  • Maintain compliance with internal governance processes as well as external regulatory requirements.

Data analysis & reporting

  • Develop, maintain, and optimise PowerBI reports, dashboards, and datasets to support operational teams, senior management, and Trustee-level oversight.
  • Deliver analysis at descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive levels using PowerBI, MS SQL, and statistical techniques.
  • Apply statistical and modelling techniques that go beyond traditional reporting, providing forecasts and recommended actions to inform decision-making.
  • Provide actionable insights by identifying trends, patterns, and drivers that inform decision-making.
  • Conduct ad-hoc and deep-dive analyses in response to immediate business questions, making clear recommendations based on findings.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business questions into robust analytical outputs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and standardise reporting processes, enhancing efficiency and value.
  • Apply innovation, including the use of AI and automation, to strengthen reporting and analytics.

Stakeholder engagement and collaboration

  • Communicate complex findings clearly and accessibly to stakeholders across clinical, financial, HR, income generation, and executive areas.
  • Support colleagues in interpreting and using data effectively to inform their own work and decision-making.
  • Promote best practice in BI solution design, demonstrating the art of the possible in reporting and analytics.
  • Work closely with the Data Engineering Resource to ensure seamless integration of data sources into the Microsoft Fabric Data Platform.
  • Collaborate with colleagues using Azure DevOps to design realistic delivery plans for reporting and analytics projects, balancing ambition with practical delivery.
  • Collaborate with the other Data Analyst to ensure knowledge is shared, silos are avoided and take joint responsibility for managing the workload through the department
  • Provide training, guidance, and knowledge sharing to build capability and resilience in the use of BI tools across the organisation.
  • Represent the organisation externally, contributing to forums such as the Hospice UK Data Analyst network to share expertise and bring back learning.

Platform management & technical contribution

  • Take shared responsibility for administering and managing elements of the Microsoft Fabric Data Platform and PowerBI tenant.
  • Work with the Data Engineering Resource to ensure reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness of data infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the design and development of data models that support strategic and operational priorities.
  • Ensure the BI environment is well-documented, secure, and optimised for performance.

  • Stay up to date with emerging tools, technologies, and practices in BI, analytics, and data governance.
  • Engage actively in continuous personal and professional development, building both technical and soft skills.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential
  • Experience with data visualisation tools, particularly PowerBI.
  • Detailed knowledge of customer requirements and internal processes is required
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience working with Clinical Data Sets
Desirable
  • Certification in PowerBI, MS Fabric or similar
  • Formal training in statistics, data modelling, or data science.
