Network Engineer Apprentice
This opportunity is within our Digital and Technical Service, which is responsible for the University’s use of digital systems and services that support teaching and learning across our campuses. You will collaborate with a variety of teams gaining technical knowledge and experience with a wide number of Cisco enterprise networking technologies.
Role
The role of the Network Engineer Apprentice will be to perform the following:
- Use network management systems software and appropriate analysis equipment to collect routine network load statistics, model performance, and create reports as required.
- Carry out routine configuration/installation/ reconfiguration and updates of hardware and software. Removal of hardware and / or software. Use supplied installation/ decommission instructions and tools, following agreed standards.
- Report details of all hardware/software items that have been installed and removed so that configuration management records can be updated.
- Using standard procedures and tools, carry out defined tasks associated with the planning, installation, upgrade, operation, control and maintenance of local and wide area networks.
- Investigate, diagnose, and resolve network problems, escalating when required and documenting results.
- Assist with vulnerability remediations and protection of assets from cybersecurity threat.
- Provide first line technical and user support. Maintain accurate records of user requests, updates, and outcomes via the service management system.
- Contribute to the development of installation and recovery procedures and standards.
Training
Apprentices will undertake the level 6 digital and technology solutions professional degree apprenticeship studied at Staffordshire University. Apprentices will complete launch weeks at our Stoke-on-Trent campus for 1 week per semester. On completion of the programme, apprentices will achieve a BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions.
This role offers long term opportunities to progress to a permanent position upon completion of the apprenticeship.
On completion of the apprenticeship, you will have the qualifications and practical experience required to apply for roles in the field of Network Engineering.
