Lead Ruby on Rails Developer

Lead Ruby on Rails Developer

Remote-First | Product-Led Environment

We’re working with a product-led client looking for a Lead Ruby on Rails Developer who still enjoys being hands-on technically while also helping guide a small engineering team.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical problems, improving engineering standards and helping developers produce better software without becoming fully removed from the codebase.

You’ll play a key role in shaping how development work is delivered, contributing directly to architecture, product development and technical direction across a modern platform environment.

The position remains heavily hands-on, with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails development, platform

improvements and scalable engineering practices.

The business is also actively exploring how AI can genuinely improve software delivery, engineering

productivity and internal tooling. They’re looking for someone who is interested in modern AI-assisted

development.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading development work across new features and platform improvements

• Writing clean, maintainable Ruby on Rails code

• Helping improve scalability, performance and engineering consistency

• Supporting and mentoring developers across the team

• Contributing to architecture and technical decision making

• Running code reviews and helping improve development standards

• Working closely with product, leadership and engineering teams

• Helping improve delivery processes without introducing unnecessary bureaucracy

• Exploring sensible use of AI tooling within the engineering workflow

Tech Environment

• Ruby on Rails

• React

• TypeScript

• AWS

• Next.js

You do not need experience across every area of the stack. Strong backend engineering experience and

good technical judgement are far more important.

What They’re Looking For

• Strong commercial Ruby on Rails experience

• Previous experience operating as a Senior or Lead Developer

• Comfortable mentoring and guiding other engineers

• Strong understanding of modern web applications and scalable backend systems

• Someone who can balance hands-on engineering with technical leadership

• Able to communicate well with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
