Technical Business Analyst – Market & Reference Data | Systematic Hedge Fund
A leading systematic trading firm is seeking a Technical Business Analyst to join a newly established Reference Data Technology team, helping design and build a new reference data platform from the ground up.
This is a highly technical BA role sitting at the intersection of business requirements, market data, data modelling, and technology. You'll work across Trading, Compliance, Operations and Research to understand how reference data is used across the business, translating business and regulatory requirements into structured data models, datasets and testable rules.
The initial focus will be on Equities and ETFs, offering the opportunity to become a key subject matter expert across the underlying data and its impact on the trading lifecycle. You'll work closely with Data and Platform Architects to shape the target model while helping define the data quality, controls and workflows required to operate the new platform at scale.
The Role
- Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into data entity models, datasets and structured technical requirements
- Work closely with Trading, Compliance, Operations and Research to gather requirements and understand downstream data requirements
- Partner with Data and Platform Architects to translate business needs into scalable technical data models
- Help design the firm's new reference data platform, contributing to the underlying data structures, workflows and operating model
- Act as a subject matter expert for data queries, system behaviour and the impact of reference data changes
- Define automated data quality rules, exception workflows, validation controls and supporting metrics
- Develop and maintain data dictionaries, ERDs, requirements specifications and other technical documentation
- Analyse how changes to reference data affect trading workflows and downstream systems
- Work with market and vendor data sources to understand data quality, mapping and integration requirements
- Support the definition of processes around corporate actions, identifiers, effective dates and downstream impacts
- Use SQL to investigate data, validate requirements and support testing and issue resolution
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the reference data platform and associated data governance processes
Requirements
- 3+ years' experience within a Technical Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Data BA, Reference Data, Market Data, or similar role
- Strong Equities and ETF data experience is essential
- Hands-on experience translating business and regulatory requirements into data entity models and datasets, ideally within a new or evolving reference data platform
- Strong understanding of Equity and ETF data, including composition, baskets, creation/redemption, identifiers, corporate actions, dividends, splits, mergers and delistings
- Experience working with vendor and market data, particularly Bloomberg
- Strong understanding of the corporate actions lifecycle, including timing, effective dates and downstream impact
- Experience defining data quality rules, controls and exception processes
- Strong requirements gathering experience across Trading, Compliance, Operations and/or Research
- Strong SQL and database skills
- Ability to translate business and regulatory requirements into structured, testable data rules
- Strong documentation skills across data dictionaries, ERDs and requirements specifications
- Bonus: Python, Master Data Management experience, UK/EU financial regulation knowledge, experience with data modelling tools
