Role SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Lead Software Engineer to join our Markets Research technology team in London.This role is a key leadership position responsible for driving the evolution of our Insights platform, with a strong focus on modern client-facing web applications, cloud-native architecture, and next-generation Generative UI/UX capabilities.The successful candidate will play a central role in transforming how research products are designed, delivered, and consumed by clients with dynamic, interactive, and AI-enabled user experiences.You will collaborate closely with business, research, product, and engineering teams to design and deliver innovative solutions that enhance client experience, scalability, and operational efficiency across the Global Markets Research ecosystem.Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Lead Software Engineer, you will:Lead the architecture, design, and delivery of modern, enterprise-grade, client-facing research platforms for financial research productsDrive the transformation of the Insights platform toward cloud-native, scalable, and highly interactive experiencesChampion the adoption of Generative UI/UX patterns, enabling dynamic and personalized research deliveryDesign end-to-end solutions across:Frontend applicationsBackend servicesData and analytics platformsTranslate business requirements into robust, scalable, and production-ready architecturesPartner with research, product, and business stakeholders to shape innovative, client-centric solutionsIntegrate advanced capabilities such as:Data Visualization and Data AnalyticsGenerative AI / Generative UI featuresProvide technical leadership and guidance to global engineering teams, ensuring high standards of design, performance, and maintainabilityDrive engineering best practices including DevOps, CI/CD, and cloud-native developmentAct as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on technology strategy and platform evolutionWhat We ValueThe ideal candidate is a hands-on architect and builder who combines deep technical expertise with a strong product mindset.You are passionate about building modern client-facing applications, comfortable working across the full stack, and motivated by delivering solutions that create tangible business and client impact.You thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy solving complex problems, and are equally effective collaborating with business stakeholders and engineering teams.Required Skills and ExperienceThese skills will help you succeed in this role:Proven experience designing and delivering enterprise-grade, client-facing web applications or platformsStrong expertise in cloud-native (AWS) architecture, including:Microservices and distributed systemsAPI-first design and event-driven architectureDeep hands-on experience across modern frontend technologies, such as:React, Angular, or VueBuilding highly performant, interactive, data-driven user interfacesStrong backend engineering experience using technologies such as:Python, Java, Node.js, or similarScalable service design and data processing pipelinesExperience working with data and analytics platforms, including visualization and large-scale data handlingExposure to or experience with Machine Learning and/or Generative AI (LLMs) and their practical application in productsStrong understanding of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and production operationsDemonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex, cross-functional technology initiativesStrong communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholdersEducation & QualificationsMinimum 10 years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a strong track record in system design and deliveryBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related fieldAWS Solutions Architect Certificate is a plusAbout State StreetAcross the globe, institutional investors rely on us to help them manage risk, respond to challenges, and drive performance and profitability.
