Rate: £438 per day (Inside IR35)
Location: Liverpool (Hybrid) | Preference for candidates within commuting distance, although wider UK locations will be considered

Overview
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with strong Microsoft Fabric expertise to support a key data and reporting transformation programme. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimising modern data solutions, enabling the organisation to make better use of its data through robust engineering practices, scalable data models, and high-quality reporting capabilities.
This role requires a hands-on engineer who can work across the full data life cycle, from data ingestion and transformation through to semantic modelling and Power BI reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain data solutions within the Microsoft Fabric platform
- Develop and optimise data pipelines, ETL processes, and data integration workflows
- Create scalable data models and semantic layers to support reporting and analytics requirements
- Develop and enhance Power BI dashboards, reports, and datasets
- Ensure data quality, governance, and performance standards are maintained
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Identify opportunities to improve existing data architecture and engineering practices
- Provide training, coaching, and best practice guidance to report developers and business users
- Support troubleshooting, performance tuning, and ongoing platform optimisation
- Produce technical documentation and maintain data engineering standards
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer
- Proven hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric
- Expertise in Data Engineering, Data Modelling, and Semantic Layer Design
- Strong SQL development skills
- Extensive experience building and optimising ETL processes and data pipelines
- Experience working with large and complex datasets
- Strong Power BI development experience, including dashboards, reports, and datasets
- Experience delivering knowledge transfer, training, and user support
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Microsoft Azure data technologies
- Knowledge of data warehousing and modern data platform architecture
- Experience implementing data governance and best practice frameworks
- Previous experience within large-scale digital transformation programmes
