Java Kafka Developer - Contract

£530 per day (Inside IR35)

Public Sector Experience Required

We are currently seeking an experienced Java Kafka Developer to join a major public sector digital transformation programme. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, business-critical systems, helping to design and deliver robust, high-performance applications and event-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable Java applications.
• Build and support event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka.
• Develop APIs and microservices within cloud-based environments.
• Collaborate with DevOps, Architecture and Product teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Ensure code quality through testing, peer reviews and best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development standards and processes.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Java development.
• Proven expertise with Apache Kafka and event-driven architectures.
• Experience building scalable microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Strong knowledge of Spring Boot and related Java frameworks.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices and agile delivery methods.

Desirable Skills

• Previous experience working within UK Public Sector environments.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and automation tools.
• Experience with performance tuning and distributed systems.

Requirements

• Demonstrable Public Sector experience is essential.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to work remotely with occasional travel to UK offices when required.
