Lead Scala Developer - Outside IR35 - Government Programme

I'm currently looking for a Lead Scala Developer to join a high-profile Government/Public Sector programme on an Outside IR35 contract basis.

Role Overview

• Position: Lead Scala Developer
• Rate: Competitive Rate per day
• Contract: Outside IR35
• Sector: Government/Public Sector
• Location: UK (hybrid/remote depending on project requirements)
• Duration: Initial contract with extension potential

Key Requirements

• Strong commercial experience with Scala
• Proven experience leading development teams and mentoring engineers
• Expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems
• Experience with:
  • Akka/Pekko
  • Play Framework
  • RESTful APIs
  • AWS or cloud-native environments
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Docker and Kubernetes
• Strong stakeholder management and technical leadership skills
• Previous Government/Public Sector experience
• Understanding of Agile/Scrum delivery methodologies

Nice to Have

• Active or previously held SC Clearance
• Experience delivering services aligned to GDS standards
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and Kafka

Responsibilities

• Leading the design and development of scalable Scala-based applications
• Providing technical direction and code review oversight
• Working closely with architects, delivery teams and stakeholders
• Driving engineering best practices and platform improvements
• Supporting successful project delivery within a complex government environment
