Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Developer (SFIA 5) to support a high-profile public sector programme. This role will focus on improving application security, resilience, maintainability, and operational supportability across an existing cloud-based service.

The successful candidate will lead the implementation of remediation activities identified through security and architecture reviews, while ensuring all changes align with agreed technical standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead development activities using Node.js within a Microsoft Azure environment.
• Implement remediation actions arising from architecture and security assessments.
• Deliver application, infrastructure, and configuration changes to address approved findings.
• Enhance security controls and system resilience across the platform.
• Ensure all development work aligns with established architecture, security, and service standards.
• Review existing solutions and identify areas for technical improvement.
• Assess current documentation and address gaps in system knowledge.
• Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation.
• Document operational processes, dependencies, and configurations to improve long-term supportability.
• Support the creation of a sustainable support model for ongoing service management.
• Collaborate with technical teams, architects, support teams, and stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience with Node.js development.
• Extensive experience with Microsoft Azure, including:
  • Azure Functions
  • Cosmos DB
  • Cloud-native application development
• Proficiency with GitHub and source control best practices.
• Experience implementing security remediation and technical debt reduction initiatives.
• Strong understanding of application security principles and secure coding practices.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
• Proven experience producing clear technical and operational documentation.

Desirable Skills

• Experience working on public sector or government programmes.
• Familiarity with cloud security standards and governance requirements.
• Infrastructure-as-Code and DevOps experience.
• Knowledge of operational support models and service transition activities.
• Experience working with enterprise-scale Azure environments.
