Overview
We are seeking an experienced Scala Developer to join a high-profile government programme. This is an opportunity to work on large-scale, cloud-based services within an Agile delivery environment, contributing to the development of secure, scalable, and resilient applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Back End applications using Scala.
- Build and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Work closely with architects, DevOps engineers, testers, and business stakeholders.
- Develop secure, performant, and scalable solutions.
- Participate in code reviews and promote engineering best practices.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies.
- Support production deployments and troubleshooting activities.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience developing applications in Scala.
- Experience building REST APIs and microservices.
- Knowledge of functional programming principles.
- Experience with Akka, Play Framework, or similar Scala ecosystem technologies.
- Strong understanding of software development best practices and Agile methodologies.
- Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated testing frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable
- Previous Public Sector or Government project experience.
- Experience working within GDS environments.
- Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Kafka or event-driven architectures.
Requirements
- Active SC Clearance is mandatory.
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
- Available to start within a reasonable timeframe.
This is a long-term 12-month contract offering fully remote working and the opportunity to work on a significant government digital transformation programme.
