Job Title: Service Designer
Rate: £530 Inside
Duration: 6 months
Location: Remote with 1 day onsite in Manchester
Clearance: BPSS
Stages: 2 Stage
Key Responsibilities

Design and iterate end-to-end services across multiple channels (digital, telephony, face-to-face, correspondence)

Apply human-centred design principles to complex service problems

Plan and facilitate service design activities including:

Journey mapping

Service blueprints
-
Workshops and co-design sessions
-

Work closely with:

User Researchers
-
Interaction Designers
-
Content Designers
-
Policy and Operational stakeholders
-

Translate policy intent and business needs into usable, accessible services

Identify service risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement

Support teams through GDS service assessments
-
Use insight and evidence to inform design decisions
-
Champion accessibility, inclusion, and continuous improvement
Essential Skills & Experience
-
Proven experience as a Service Designer within UK Government or large public sector organisations

Strong understanding of the GDS Service Standard

Experience designing services in complex, policy-led environments
-
Ability to work across organisational silos and influence senior stakeholders

Experience working in agile, multi-disciplinary teams
-
Strong facilitation and communication skills
-
Ability to manage ambiguity and evolving requirements
