Software Developer (Node.js/AWS)

Rate: £400 per day
Location: Remote with occasional site visits

Overview
We are seeking an experienced Software Developer (Node.js/AWS) to join a high-profile programme delivering secure, scalable cloud-based services. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, testing, and supporting modern applications within an agile delivery environment, working alongside architects, engineers, and product teams.
This is an excellent opportunity for a developer with strong Node.js and AWS experience who enjoys building robust solutions and contributing to the delivery of business-critical digital services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using Node.js and cloud-native technologies.
- Build and enhance applications hosted within AWS environments.
- Develop secure, scalable, and resilient APIs and microservices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile delivery environment.
- Contribute to solution design, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
- Implement automated testing and CI/CD practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application and integration issues.
- Ensure solutions adhere to security, quality, and coding standards.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation where required.
- Support deployment activities and ongoing service improvements.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven commercial experience developing applications using Node.js.
- Strong experience working with AWS services.
- Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Knowledge of modern software engineering principles and development best practices.
- Experience with Git-based source control and collaborative development workflows.
- Understanding of automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, or RDS.
- Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform or CloudFormation).
- Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of serverless architectures.
- Exposure to government or public sector projects.
SFIA Level 4 Profile
The successful candidate will typically demonstrate:
- Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy within defined objectives.
- Responsibility for designing, developing, and improving software components.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
- Ability to identify and resolve technical issues while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
