User Researcher (Active SC Clearance)

Overview

We are seeking an experienced User Researcher to join a high-profile public sector programme. The successful candidate will play a key role in understanding user needs, behaviours, and pain points, ensuring digital services are designed and delivered around genuine user requirements.

Working within a multidisciplinary agile team, you will plan, conduct, analyse, and communicate user research to inform service design and drive evidence-based decision making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and conduct a range of qualitative and quantitative user research activities.
  • Engage with users and stakeholders to identify needs, behaviours, and service challenges.
  • Translate research findings into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Present research outcomes clearly to delivery teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
  • Support product, design, and development teams with user-centred decision making.
  • Contribute to service assessments and ensure alignment with Government Digital Service (GDS) standards where applicable.
  • Champion user-centred design principles across the programme.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Service Designers, Business Analysts, and Delivery Managers.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Active SC Clearance (required).
  • Proven experience as a User Researcher within public sector or highly regulated environments.
  • Strong background conducting usability testing, user interviews, workshops, surveys, and discovery research.
  • Experience synthesising complex research findings into clear recommendations.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders using evidence-based insights.
  • Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working on large-scale digital transformation programmes.
  • Familiarity with GDS Service Standard and user-centred design methodologies.
  • Experience with accessibility research and inclusive design practices.
  • Knowledge of quantitative research methods and data analysis.
