Job Title: Projects and Automation Engineer
Location: Telford (site-based)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 (flexibility required)
Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per annum (Dependent on Experience)

Projects and Automations Engineer Role Overview:
An exciting new opportunity for an experienced engineer to lead automation upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and project delivery across a fast-paced manufacturing site. The successful candidate will drive reliability, digital integration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team, reporting directly to the Senior Site Engineering Manager.
Projects and Automation Engineer Key Responsibilities:
Lead full-cycle delivery of engineering and automation projects (small upgrades to full line installs)
Act as site lead for automation software and systems (Siemens S7, STEP 7, Simatic)
Develop and manage a structured software library for automation systems
Manage obsolescence of control systems (PLCs, inverters, instrumentation)
Perform root cause analysis on performance issues; identify and implement improvement actions
Analyse maintenance and performance data to improve OEE
Support and coach maintenance engineers on best practices and reliability standards
Maintain and update panel risk assessments and improvement plans
Support smart factory software implementation and digital reliability systems
Contribute to the development of SOPs and department 5S/continuous improvement activities
Supervise and ensure safe contractor work practices; support project and facilities planning
- Promote a culture of structured problem-solving and cost-effective engineering
Projects and Automation Engineer Experience & Skills:
Proven experience delivering automation and engineering projects in manufacturing environments
Strong background in electrical systems and automation
Proficient in Siemens automation platforms (S7, STEP 7, Simatic)
Confident managing software version control and technical documentation
Experienced in root cause analysis, performance optimisation, and team coaching
Comfortable liaising with OEMs, contractors, and technical suppliers
Excellent communication, decision-making, and time management skills
Qualifications:
Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship, OR
- ONC/HNC/Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, OR Minimum Level 3 C&G
- 5 years’ experience in a similar engineering environment
