Senior Full Stack Engineer – Fixed-Term (9 Months)

Salary: £75,000–£85,000 (£56,250 – £63,750 Pro-Rata’d)

Location: Predominantly remote with occasional South West meetups

Contract Type: Fixed term, PAYE

We are supporting an engineering-led business currently transitioning a modern mobile and web-based platform from outsourced development to an internal engineering capability.

They are looking to appoint a Senior Full Stack Engineer to help lead this transition whilst shaping the future engineering environment, technical standards and long-term product roadmap.

This role sits within a modern, AI-enabled software environment where intelligent tooling, automation and engineering scalability are considered central to the business.

The platform itself combines mobile applications, backend infrastructure, synchronised datasets, sensor-driven data processing and customer-facing web technologies, requiring an engineer comfortable operating across multiple parts of a connected product ecosystem.

About the Role

This is not simply a feature-delivery role.

The successful individual will help assess, stabilise and evolve an existing product environment whilst influencing how modern engineering practices, AI-assisted workflows and scalable development processes are implemented internally moving forward.

You will work closely with stakeholders and the current development partner to ensure a smooth transition whilst supporting ongoing product development and roadmap delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the transition of an existing software platform from outsourced to in-house development.
• Assess, appraise and document existing architecture, deployment environments and technical workflows.
• Support ongoing development across mobile, backend and frontend systems.
• Champion AI-assisted development workflows to improve engineering velocity, quality and scalability.
• Leverage modern AI tooling to support coding, testing, debugging and technical discovery.
• Improve technical visibility, documentation and engineering maturity across the platform.
• Support containerised deployment and modern DevOps workflows.
• Work closely with stakeholders on roadmap planning, feature prioritisation and technical decision-making.

Technical Environment

• Mobile application technologies – React Native, Expo, Kotlin & Swift
• Backend/server technologies – Laravel, PHP, MySQL & Cloudflare R2
• Frontend/dashboard/web portal technologies – React & Inertia
• Docker-based production deployments
• Git/GitHub source control and release management via Expo
• Basecamp-managed development workflows
• Figma-based product and design collaboration

The Environment

• Development is undertaken locally, with production deployments containerised using Docker.
• Existing technical documentation is currently limited and primarily stored within Basecamp and Figma.
• Sensor data is captured on-device, synchronised to Cloudflare R2 and processed into datasets and performance metrics.
• User data synchronises across devices, with event-driven recalculation of associated metrics and datasets.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong experience across modern full stack engineering environments.
• Hands-on experience with React Native, Laravel/PHP, React and cloud infrastructure environments.
• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tooling and workflows within engineering teams.
• Someone who views AI-enabled engineering as a core capability rather than simply a productivity add-on.
• Comfortable operating across mobile, backend and frontend systems.
• Experience onboarding, stabilising or improving existing product/codebase environments.
• Strong systems-thinking mindset with an understanding of scalability, maintainability and product architecture.
• Commercially minded with strong stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable operating in a fast-moving, evolving product environment with limited legacy documentation.
• Security awareness (or willingness to learn) – BPSS screening required.

• Start-up or scale-up experience
• Experience within regulated, secure or specialist technical environments
• Experience helping establish engineering standards or internal development capability
