The Company

Storm2's client is a London-based research and trading firm building a tier-one HFT platform. Small team, high bar, and serious about what they're building. You'd be their fifth Rust hire.

The Role

Most Rust roles aren't really Rust roles. This one is.

You'll be building the systems that power live trading operations: data ingestion, order management, execution, and risk, in an environment where microseconds matter and the margin for error is essentially zero. There's also real scope to ideate and build logic for new instruments and markets, so this isn't purely optimisation work on existing systems. The expectation is that you drive the design of those systems yourself, not wait to be pointed at a problem.

The team is lean, highly technical, and academically rigorous. They're not hiring someone to execute a spec. They want someone who grabs initiative, shapes the architecture, and takes genuine ownership of what they build. If you've founded something, led a platform from scratch, or consistently been the person in previous roles who defined how things were built rather than just building them, that matters a lot here.

On the technical side, they want to see:

• Real HFT or market making experience in Rust, or a background in ultra-high-performance, large-scale throughput systems where the engineering demands are genuinely comparable.
• Years of experience matters less than the depth and context you've built: someone five years into the right career is more interesting to this team than someone ten years into the wrong one.
• Trading background or exposure to market microstructure is a genuine differentiator and will make you significantly more valuable in this seat from day one.
